Haiti Earthquake Relief    To All Knights of Columbus:

In an effort to come to the aid of the people of Haiti, who are suffering a humanitarian catastrophe of huge proportions in the wake of Tuesday evening's 7.0 earthquake, the Knights of Columbus has today sent an immediate contribution of $50,000 to Catholic Relief Services, and we invite Knights to make contributions through the Supreme Council so that we can maximize the impact of the funds raised, and document the amount donated in this tragedy by members of the Order. Donations by individual Knights can be made on line, and this feature is available on the Supreme Council website (www.kofc.org). Checks should be made out to Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. and mailed to 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510. Please write "Haiti Earthquake Relief" on the memo line of the check. Contributions will be used to provide assistance wherever it can have the most immediate impact, and where the need is greatest. We ask all Knights and their families to also offer their prayers for the victims of this terrible disaster.

Father Cyril Karlowicz Council 9002 Knights of Columbus

New Officers for the Fraternal Year 2009/2010

                 The "Year For Priests"
In keeping with the KofC Order's longstanding "In Solidarity With Our Priests" campaign, the Supreme Knight has called upon all Knights to actively participate in the "Year for Priests" declared by Pope Benedict XVI. The centerpiece of the Order's program for this yearlong celebration (June 19, 2009 – June 19, 2010) is a new holy card  (#4864, available in English, French, Spanish and Polish) featuring a prayer for priests. This prayer may be used at all council meetings and events, as well as in the homes of members during their family prayers. The card features an icon, written by Marek Czarnecki (www.seraphicrestorations.com ), showing Christ in Mass vestments with a gold pelican over his heart, the ancient symbol of self-sacrifice. At the bottom of the icon is an altar prepared for Mass, and at the sides are Melchizedek, whose sacrifice of bread and wine prefigured the Eucharist, and St. John Vianney the patron of parish priests. The back of the card includes a prayer for priests.

Since its founding by a priest, the Venerable Michael McGivney, the Knights of Columbus has maintained a strong and close relationship to priests. To acknowledge and reinforce this special bond between the Knights of Columbus and our priests, all councils are urged to recognize their priests during the "Year for Priests" celebration.

Brother Knight, Todd White has reinstated the Yahoo Groups site in hopes that our membership will consider taking part in the services which it provides.  Please join and take a little time to poke around the site.  I think it could make our lives a lot easier at 9002, and help you get more from the our web pages.  It’s like an unused toolbox, jammed with new tools for us to use.  There is no charge to join the Group, so just click on the Yahoo link above...

Council Meetings
Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 PM, in the Knights Hall.  The prayer of "The Rosary Of Our Blessed Virgin Mary" starts at 7:00, prior to the meetings, come and join us for the comfort you will find in the prayer.  Pope John Paul has said, "the Rosary does indeed 'mark the rhythm of human life,' bringing it into harmony with the 'rhythm' of God's own life."  The reciting of the Rosary on a daily basis can be a great blessing and a great source of strength for our lives, especially during the month of May, which is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the World.  Our hope is that the new set of mysteries, the Luminous Mysteries, or Mysteries of Light, will become incorporated into our weekly rosary cycles.

About Our Council
                         OUR 29th ANNIVERSARY YEAR
In April of 1985, officers for the “new” Father Cyril Karlowicz Council 9002 were installed at a ceremony in the St John Bosco Catholic Church in Woodstock. The newly chartered Council 9002 was named in the memory of Father Cyril Karlowicz, a former pastor of the church, who had died of cancer some years before. He was in his thirties when he passed away.  The first installed council chaplain was Father Sylvester Catallo, St. John Bosco Catholic Church Pastor. The picture of the Council’s Charter hangs in the Knights Hall in Woodstock, along with a picture of the original officers. To see the photo of the original officers, click here. The first Grand Knight was Frank Beeton, and his Deputy Grand Knight was Merrill Long.  Our Council is located in District 20, and the District Deputy is Thomas H. Sayre

Do not imitate those who deceive themselves by saying: "I will sin and then go to confession." How do you know that you will have time to make your confession? Is it not madness to wound oneself, in the hope that a doctor will be found who will heal the wound? *-St. John Bosco
